There’s only one thing you can to help him, and that’s to stop enabling him. The truth is, rseardlges of what you say about his drinking, alcoholics don’t care about words. They care about actions. As long as you are still with him, he sees this as permission to continue drinking. And he’s right. This will only get worse and you need to give him an ultimatum about it. If you’re like most people, you won’t do this today or even tomorrow, but the day will come when you wish you had. You simply need to inform him that the next time he drinks, you’re leaving (if you live in separate places, this means you go home) He’s not to drink in your place or you call the cops. Seriously, the apologies etc are worthless psychologists call this behavior undoing . You don’t want his apologies you want him to stop drinking. And I do hope you see this. For someone like him, cutting down isn’t an option. It shouldn’t even be brought up in discussion. He’s either drinking or he’s not.
